Academic and Standardized Testing
Class Rank and Grade Point Average
Rank in class and grade point average are computed on all subjects receiving credit with the exception of physical education. All members of the class are included in the
ranking, with the exception of students who did not complete both their sophomore and junior years at SPM. Class rank is weighted for academic level; grade point average is unweighted.
Advanced Placement
Advanced Placement courses are currently offered in ten subjects: Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, English Language, English Literature, Physics, Psychology, French, Spanish, U.S. History, and U.S. Government and Politics. Students must receive teacher approval to take an AP course, which may require that they complete an application, submit teacher recommendations, and have an interview. Extensive summer projects are required of all AP students. ALL students who take an AP class are REQUIRED to sit for the Advanced Placement examination. SPM does not discourage potentially capable students from taking AP classes.
Juniors & seniors may register for a maximum of 3 AP classes per year.
